Rebounders see famous basketball players at Comcast Center all the time.

Vicky Bullett (‘89) visits quite regularly, and during the 2007-2008 season she was there to present the game ball to Crystal Langhorne when Vicky’s scoring record was topped by Lang.

Christy Winters-Scott (‘90) appears often at Maryland games---sometimes in her capacity as sports analyst for Comcast SportsNet.

At the USA Team exhibition game last season we were treated to the athletic prowess of Sue Bird, Kara Lawson, Diana Taurasi, Lisa Leslie and Taj McWilliams-Franklin. Rebecca Lobo, former UConn star, occasionally scurries up and down the sidelines as she reports for ESPN.

The Maryland Men’s basketball team watches some of the Women’s games (surrounded by adoring eight year old girls).  Basketball players of all types seem to LOVE the Maryland Women’s team.

Other famous people enter our world too; they are not always Maryland fans, but they happen to be where Rebounders are.

Take for instance Chubby Checker.  He would have been on my “Is He Still Alive List,” but Rebounders saw him many times when his daughter Mistie Bass (‘06) was playing for Duke.

Cal Ripken stirred up the crowd when he arrived one night to watch his daughter play in a half-time game.

Jerry Falwell, now deceased, once appeared at Comcast Center to watch his team from Liberty University play.  He sat mid-court about 5 rows up.  According to Rebounder Fred Smith, “The three seats were empty on either side and two guards (??) were there to keep people from approaching him.”

The New England Patriots (formerly Oakland Raiders) running back, LaMont Jordan, not only comes to many games, but he is a BIG FAN of our Terrapins and has given pre-game pep talks to the women.  Rebounders often see him in the stands or sitting courtside.

Pam Ward, an ESPN sports commentator, hosted the end-of-the-year banquet last year.

Johnny Holiday, a local celebrity, occasionally appears to call the game or just to watch.

Long-time Rebounders are happy to see former Maryland Coach Chris Weller in the stands from time to time, and our  president, Dr. Dan Mote, and Athletic Director, Debbie Yow, are regulars at the Women’s games.

Rebounders don’t have to look very far to see famous personalities.

After our 2006 National Championship, Kristi Toliver and her three point shot became a topic of conversation nation wide.

Jade Perry’s hometown of Central City, Kentucky erected highway signs in her honor.

Former players Crystal Langhorne and Laura Harper are playing in the WNBA.

But perhaps our favorite famous person is very close by---right there on the bench motivating her team, cheering them on, praising them for their effort.

Our very famous coach, Brenda Frese.
