Entry No. 3
The “Beach Bungalow,” as our house near Bethany Beach is named, teems with activity each summer. Obie and I serve as host and hostess for relatives, friends, and group house renters.
For a few days in the summer of 2007, the house was full of Rebounders: Helen and Ed Pickens stayed in the Willa Cather room; Pete and Mary Ruth Chapin in the Key West Room; and Jan McIntyre in the President’s Room.
A few weeks before their arrival, Mary Ruth volunteered to make dinner one night. She promised an authentic Italian feast. With thoughts of Tuscany in mind, we decided to expand the guest list and include other beachy Rebounders---Darlene Lehr, Nita McVeigh, and Coach Chris Weller. Everyone appeared at the appointed time and Mary Ruth produced a meal fit for royalty!
Chris had not seen many of us for quite some time, so it felt like a reunion. In the candle light on the screened in porch, we talked for hours. The conversation around the table flowed from beach life, travel, exercise, the 'good ole days', and, of course, to basketball. We lingered over our wine, enjoyed the warm, moist evening air, and savored the memories that brought us all together.
Being surrounded by Rebounders is like wrapping up in my grandmother’s old quilt.
