Marilyn's Journal Entry No. 2

My mother, Lucile Davids, moved to Gaithersburg in 1996.  Immediately, she joined the parish of St. Rose of Lima and became a weekly attendee at a Bible study group.  She made friends easily and soon was an integral part of each meeting.  Before long, she was mentioning one woman in particular whom she liked.

My mother had always enjoyed sports so, the following season, I started taking her to the Maryland Women’s games.  One night we went to the annual meeting of the Rebounders---an organization that she eagerly joined.  On the way, I prepared to introduce her to the officers and other members, but as we walked in the door, we heard someone yell, “Lucile!!!”  My mother walked over to the woman and they greeted each other warmly.  Both were surprised to see each other.

I stood there---bewildered. How did my mother know a Rebounder?? Much to my delight, the woman was Harriet Maier---not only a loyal Rebounder, but also the woman that my mother had befriended in the Bible study group. This was the beginning of a treasured friendship between my family and Harriet’s.
