Rebounder Moment from Marilyn
Beth
Deskins, from the Athletics Development Office, asked Obie and
me to host Arizona State University for the NCAA 1st and 2nd rounds.
We were honored and delighted to do this. The friendly, visiting
Sun Devils gave us ASU T-Shirts, and we sat in the midst of a
few gold and maroon fans wearing our new tops. Sitting far from
our Rebounder friends, Obie and I were feeling a little strange
and out of place.
During
half time we noticed Coach Floyd walking our way and behind her
was a young woman---tall, thin, pretty. They sat down right in
front of us---about three rows.
There
was some talking going on, and then Coach handed her a paper,
explained a few things, and asked the young woman to sign it.
She did. Then off they went. Obie and I looked at each other.
“I wonder what that was all about,” I muttered. |

Then,
on the Maryland Women’s official site on April 17, we found
out Jackie Nared
from |
Oregon had signed with the Terrapins. I quickly looked up
her picture on the Internet--- tall, thin, pretty. We believe
we had seen the “signing.” (This is confirmed in the
April Terrapin Times.) We had been sitting at the right place,
at the right time. In Rebounder ‘speak’, we had witnessed
history!
