Entry No. 14: Final Four '09 |
|
Every
year we try to go to the Final Four (12 times out of the last
16). By far the most fun we ever had was in 2006 in Boston---the
year our Terrapins won the National Championship. But every
year brings surprises and amazing experiences. This year
in St. Louis was no exception. Obie and I traveled with
Ron McKee and my sister, Judy Ashley. |
 |
| |
| We
had only been in St. Louis a few hours when we ran into Kristi.
She came right over and talked to us for quite a while. |
|
| |
| On
Saturday we attended Louisville’s open practice and waved
to Coach Walz who seemed delighted to see us. |
 |
|
|
| |
The
Final Four is a star-studded event. Rebecca Lobo was at
the open practice. |
|
| |
| We
hob-knobbed with the Louisville fans and “players” at
the absolutely gorgeous Union Station Marriott. |
 |
|
| |
|
| |
| On
Saturday night we changed into our Michigan State University t-shirts
(my sister and I are MSU graduates) and watched the Spartans win
the semi-final game. |
|
| |
|
For some unknown reason we were asked to leave a Louisville “private
party” which was advertised on the Cardinal website as open
to fans. Only had time to take this photo of “Jeff”
and the guys. |
|
| |
| Everywhere
we went we met basketball fans---from schools and organizations
all over the country. The woman on the left is the Executive
Director of San Antonio Sports and the woman on the right is an
administrator for the BIG 12. |
|
| |
| At
the airport we ran into Harriet, Mary, Ann Marie, and former Maryland
player Mary Barnes. |
|
| |
| Obviously
everyone in St. Louis is secretly a Maryland Terrapin fan because
there are turtles everywhere. |
|
| |
|
| |
|
| |
Everywhere we were greeted with friendly smiles and warm hellos. The
arch in St. Louis reflects the hospitality of the city and its
residents. |
